Unity day is October 20th. On this day Columbus Cougars stand up against bullying.

Columbus Cougars always do something to celebrate the day we stand up to bullies. Before Covid-19, we did big celebrations school-wide. For example, paper bracelets where students wrote their names and wrote a kind act. We cuffed the entire school and the bracelets went around the building.

For this year, now that we’re back in school, we did a project where we trace out our hand, cut it out, color it orange and write a way to be kind. In the cafeteria each grade has a letter made out of all the classes handprints.

Kindergarten has ‘U’, first grade has ‘N’, second grade has ‘I’, third grade has ‘T’, and fourth grade has ‘Y’. Fifth grade has a heart. That spells “Unity”. The color for unity day is orange. Orange represents standing up to bullying.

These are types of bullying that you find more often, verbal bullying means name calling and bad language. Physical meaning punching and kicking. Social which means  popular groups and not popular groups. Cyber online websites where you talk to one another and share personal information.

This is how we try to make a difference in the world!
